CETL Conducts Induction Training on Assessment for Learning

Assessment for Learning session held on 1 March 2025.

The Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL) conducted on 1 March 2025 an Induction Training module focused on Assessment for Learning. The session aimed to enhance faculty members’ understanding of effective assessment practices as a critical component of quality teaching and learning.

Golam Kader Zilany, Coordinator of CETL, opened the training by welcoming participants and highlighting the role of quality assessment in teaching excellence. Dr. Mohammad Shazzad Hossain, Director of CETL, led a session on authentic assessment and the use of rubrics, emphasizing their role in fostering meaningful student learning. He also introduced participants to contemporary digital evaluation tools and their implications for higher education.

Dr. Nafees Mansoor, Associate Professor of CSE, delivered a session on academic integrity, with a focus on ULAB’s policy and the principles of ethical assessment. In the final technical session, Dr. Sarkar Barbaq Quarmal guided participants through departmental evaluation procedures and demonstrated practical methods for grade calculation using Excel.

The training concluded with closing remarks from Golam Kader Zilany, who underscored the importance of fair and effective evaluations in improving student learning outcomes. The module successfully equipped teaching staff with key strategies and tools for developing equitable assessment practices, aligning with CETL’s mission to advance teaching and learning at ULAB.
