ULAB Hosts Workshop on Bangladesh National Qualifications Framework (BNQF)

Bangladesh Accreditation Council (BAC) Chairman Prof. Dr. Mesbahuddin Ahmed spoke at the ULAB BNQF Awareness Program on 10 April 2025.

ULAB’s Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) successfully organized a comprehensive workshop on the Bangladesh National Qualifications Framework (BNQF) on 10 April 2025, at its permanent campus.

Professor Dr. Mesbahuddin Ahmed, Honorable Chairman of the Bangladesh Accreditation Council (BAC), graced the event as Chief Guest. Professor Dr. Sanjoy Kumar Adhikary, former full-time member of BAC, delivered the keynote address. The program was chaired by Professor Dr. Jude William R. Genilo, Pro Vice-Chancellor of ULAB and Director of IQAC, while Dr. Wazir A.F. Ahmad, Additional Director of IQAC, served as the facilitator.

The workshop commenced with an inaugural speech by Professor Genilo, who emphasized the pivotal role of the BNQF in enhancing the credibility, mobility, and global recognition of Bangladeshi qualifications.

In his address, Chief Guest Professor Mesbahuddin Ahmed underscored the importance of BNQF implementation in ensuring quality and accountability in higher education. He also acknowledged ULAB's continued commitment to aligning its academic programs with the guidelines of the Government of Bangladesh (GoB) and the University Grants Commission (UGC) since its inception.

Keynote speaker Professor Adhikary focused on how BNQF standards can be integrated into curriculum design across diverse academic disciplines. He elaborated on aligning program structures with BAC and UGC criteria, incorporating learning outcomes, skill development, and assessment frameworks. He also discussed common challenges in applying BNQF standards and suggested strategies for overcoming them.

A vibrant open discussion and Q&A session, moderated by Professor Genilo, allowed participants to explore the practical aspects of BNQF implementation. Faculty members actively exchanged ideas, shared concerns, and proposed innovative approaches for integrating the framework into institutional practices.

The workshop concluded with a collective commitment from participants to champion BNQF adoption within their respective institutions, with the shared goal of advancing quality education in Bangladesh and preparing graduates for global competitiveness.

Notable attendees included Professor Nasir Uddin Ahammed, Director (Accreditation) of BAC; Snigdha Baul, Deputy Director of BAC; Deans, Heads of Departments, Coordinators, faculty members, and non-academic staff from ULAB’s Registrar and Admissions offices.

In his closing remarks, Lt. Col. Md. Foyzul Islam (Retd), Registrar of ULAB, extended gratitude to all participants and expressed hope that the insights gained would inspire ongoing efforts to uphold academic excellence across Bangladesh’s higher education landscape.
