ULAB CETL Hosts New Faculty Orientation for Fall 2025

The Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL), hosted the Fall 2025 New Faculty Orientation on 16 October 2025. The program welcomed newly appointed faculty members and familiarized them with ULAB’s liberal education philosophy, institutional culture, and academic practices, with an emphasis on sustainability, inclusivity, and innovation in an AI-driven world. A total of nine new faculty members participated in the orientation.

The session began with a welcome address by Iram Mehrin, Coordinator of CETL, followed by Professor Imran Rahman, Vice Chancellor of ULAB, who underscored the importance of critical thinking, interdisciplinary learning, and teaching effectiveness in the age of artificial intelligence. Professor Dr. Jude William R. Genilo, Pro Vice-Chancellor, spoke on academic career development, emphasizing the value of teaching portfolios and research statements as tools for reflective and professional growth.

The program continued with Sameera Zaman from the Center for Sustainable Development (CSD), who discussed sustainability education, and Dr. Abdullah Al Mahmud, who elaborated on the value and relevance of liberal arts education in today’s rapidly evolving academic landscape.

Dr. Mohammad Shazzad Hossain, Director of CETL, led an engaging session on creating inclusive classrooms, while Mahmud Hossain provided an overview of student support services. Shawkat Tanveer Rahman outlined the proctorial system, Dr. Nafees Mansoor discussed research opportunities, and Musa Mohammad Arif Billah reviewed HR policies and procedures relevant to academic staff.

In her closing remarks, Ms. Mehrin expressed appreciation to all speakers and participants, reaffirming CETL’s dedication to faculty development and pedagogical innovation. She noted that CETL remains integral to ULAB’s mission of nurturing critical, compassionate, and future-ready educators who embody the university’s liberal arts ethos.
