The Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL) at the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) successfully conducted Module 2: Legal Certainty and Effectiveness in Teaching under its Basic Training for Tertiary Teachers (BTT) programme on 11 April 2026. The day-long training was designed to enhance faculty members’ understanding of legal frameworks, ethical responsibilities, and professional standards in higher education.
The programme commenced with welcome remarks by Iram Mehrin, Coordinator of CETL, who emphasized the importance of legal awareness and ethical practice in fostering a safe and effective learning environment. The sessions offered a comprehensive exploration of key legal and institutional dimensions of teaching, including faculty rights, workplace safety, institutional policies, and professional conduct. Participants engaged in in-depth discussions on the university’s code of conduct, legal provisions related to sexual harassment, and institutional mechanisms for ensuring a respectful and inclusive academic environment. These conversations encouraged critical reflection on the responsibilities of educators in upholding both legal standards and ethical norms.
The training also addressed essential aspects of research ethics, intellectual property, copyright, and the use of open educational resources. Additional sessions on patenting, commercialization processes, and financial management—both at the institutional and personal levels—provided practical insights to support faculty members’ academic and professional growth. Delivered through a combination of interactive lectures, group discussions, and real-world examples, the programme fostered active engagement and critical thinking among participants. The training concluded with a recap session that reinforced the importance of legal literacy, ethical integrity, and continuous professional development in ensuring effective and responsible teaching practices. This initiative reflects CETL’s ongoing commitment to advancing teaching excellence and cultivating a responsible, informed, and forward-looking academic community at ULAB.
