CETL Hosts Virtual Seminar on Generative AI in Higher Education
CETL organized a virtual seminar on “Generative AI and the future of Higher Education” on 23 June 2026.
The Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL) at the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) organized a virtual seminar on artificial intelligence in higher education on 23 June 2026. The seminar featured Professor A. Y. M. Atiquil Islam of Zhejiang Normal University was the keynote speaker and was attended by more than 30 faculty members and academics from ULAB.
In his presentation, Professor Islam highlighted the growing importance of AI literacy, educational research, and meaningful human–AI collaboration in higher education. He emphasized that while artificial intelligence has significantly expanded access to existing knowledge, the key challenge for universities is to generate new knowledge through research and innovation. He also discussed the transformative impact of generative AI on teaching, learning, and knowledge creation.
The session, titled “Generative AI and the Future of Higher Education,” was facilitated by Iram Mehrin, Coordinator of CETL. Following the presentation, participants engaged in an interactive question-and-answer session, during which Professor Islam shared insights on the future of higher education in Bangladesh and the evolving role of universities in an AI-driven world.
During the discussion, he underscored the importance of academic freedom, research excellence, and robust quality assurance mechanisms in strengthening higher education institutions. Faculty members actively participated in the exchange, raising questions on the opportunities and challenges associated with integrating AI into teaching, learning, and research.
The seminar concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Mohammad Shazzad Hossain, Director of CETL, who expressed appreciation to the keynote speaker and participants for their valuable contributions.
The event marked an important step in ULAB’s ongoing efforts to foster informed dialogue on emerging technologies and their implications for higher education.
