The Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL) held a webinar on 22 April 2021 entitled “Techniques/tools for Greater Student Engagement”. Dr. Mamiza Haq, an academic at the University of Queensland conducted the session. The key objective of the session was to discuss how to engage (and retain) students in the learning process, especially when teaching is done online. The webinar recognized this as a critical question as the sudden shift to a different educational paradigm can leave some students disoriented and unmoored from the learning practices. As a result, some students may drift away while others may lose sight of what they were doing in the first place. In such a context, the webinar emphasized some of the key aspects that academics could find useful for greater student engagement. Empathy and flexibility, student-teacher partnership, online teaching tools, innovative assessment techniques for example were some of the agendas covered in the webinar. Professor Imran Rahman, Special Advisor to BOT, welcomed the guest speaker and inaugurated the session
