US Embassy Conducts Final Workshop on Online Assessment

The US Embassy Dhaka, in the collaboration of University Grants Commission of Bangladesh, organized a final virtual presentation and discussion on “Assessing Learning Online-Assessing Application and Solutions for Lab- and Studio-based Courses” on 16 September 2021. Dr. Stephanie Moore, Assistant Professor in Organization, Information and Learning Sciences at the University of New Mexico facilitated the session. Dr. Biswajit Chanda, Member, UGC graced the inaugural session as the chief guest. In the first session on assessing learning online, Dr. Moore shared a framework for different types of learning and ways that can assess different types of learning, while during her second session, Dr. Moore expanded on the first part of this framework, focusing on objective, assessments of knowledge and discussed cheating and how to address it, as questions about cheating often relate to the use of objective assessments. In this final session on assessing different types of learning online, Dr. Moore discussed strategies and tools - along with examples from different disciplines - for assessing application through skills demonstration and products online. While at the University of Virginia, Dr. Moore was part of a team that built an online undergraduate program in engineering, which required designing solutions for online labs. Thus, in this presentation, she shared the examples of different ways labs can be done online, along with ideas and resources for studio-based courses. Dr. Jude William Genilo, IQAC Director of University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) participated in the session.
