CETL Hosts Seminar on Real-World Problem Solving through Education

The Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL) hosted an insightful seminar titled “Purpose-led Education: A Case Study of Ibu.Niaga Project” on 23 May 2024. ULAB Pro Vice-Chancellor Professor Jude William Genilo inaugurated the session with a welcome speech, and CETL director Dr. M. Shazzad Hossain hosted it.

The seminar featured a comprehensive presentation by Professor Anindita Dasgupta, who explored Taylor’s University’s commitment to purpose-driven education and its significant impact in Malaysia. Dr. Dasgupta discussed Taylor’s transition to a purpose-driven institution and its initiatives to solve real-world problems through education, research, and advocacy.

A key focus of the seminar was Project Ibu.Niaga, part of Taylor’s Impact Lab: Eradicating Poverty, is a transformative initiative that empowers underserved women in Malaysia through multidisciplinary entrepreneurship programs. Dr. Dasgupta highlighted the integration of purpose-led learning into the undergraduate curriculum, stressing a holistic approach that combines education, research, and advocacy. Faculty members from ULAB actively engaged in the seminar, participating in discussions and posing questions about implementing and measuring the impact of purpose-led learning initiatives. The event facilitated collaborative learning and knowledge exchange, underscoring the vital role of purpose-driven education in tackling societal challenges.
